About Me: Hello I am Katie, I am In my late 30s! (not sure why we always have to put age down!!!) I am married with two lovely boys. I used to be a Practice Nurse, until having children and getting the best job in the World … becoming a stay at home Momma.
My Organizing Story: During my job I was organized and even at home until having children. However then having my boys I would rather play cars, read them books, go for a walk outside or take a trip to playpark, than do chores or sort out the house. I have even had a nice declutterer lady in to help sort a room out but after some time the room went back to a dumping ground! Plus my best friend (who was the most organized person I know, who used to inspire me) moved back to America! I have always been embarrassed by having people come over, I would need at least 2 weeks notice before people could come round! However since having the Alejandra technique with Color-Coded, (as a crafter the plan appealed to my creative side, by use of colour and FUN ways to really do my organizing and purging), I now take much more pride in my house and even the hubbie has noticed the marked improvement. I have even managed to have a playdate for my sons and also had a Jamie (Oliver) at Home party for all my friends. This would have NEVER have happenend before doing the course, I cannot thank Alejandra enough. I have even got my neighbour looking at Alejandra’s videos, we compare notes and help each other out! I am not there yet but things are being put in place to enable me and my family to enjoy life and have fun at weekends instead of ”We can’t go out we need to sort out the house!” I don’t think I meet the standards of my organized Mom yet, but I am getting there and I think I am starting to make her more proud of me with my progress!
My Favorite Space to Organize: Pantry! I had reached maximum coping level with my kitchen and pantry, I was fed up of climbing over an ironing board, vacuum cleaner or hubbies tool box!!! Trying to make chocolate pear pudding was not easy, getting to all the ingredients in the pantry, hence I googled pantry organizing and found the wonderful Alejandra Costello!!! 🙂 Not only did I get ideas for how to do my pantry and fun organizing ways to sort out my house I also got an e-friend out of it! The Pantry now has shelves to store all my cook/baking books, all my ingredients, the vacuum cleaner has a space as does the ironing board and even the tool box! So it is all done now – looking fab – see attached photo! With that funny woman standing in front of it! (me by the way!)
My Favorite Organizing Product: Do I have to choose one!!!! I would say that my favourite one(s) are the over the door organizer which sorted out my make up – now I am so quick to put on my make up just before drop off and even quicker putting it all away! The oxo containers are great too for flour as they hold 1 whole bag full! rnThe Staples files, I have all important documents in one for the house (I felt really proud of myself when hubbie asked for the car insurance documents and he could go straight to the car section – and it was there!!) and then one for groups and school newsletters. rnI think if container store opens in the uk, my product choice might be even longer!!!! plus Alejandra! 😀
Current Goals: My laundry!!!!! I find I have mastered the down stairs in my house, (which includes a living room, downstairs loo and kitchen but its the the clothes and putting them away in the bedrooms. I have mastered doing a load of washing a day, if needed and time myself (like Alejandra’s youtube clip, on folding clothes) However after getting to that stage I find myself finding something fun to do with my boys! especially if its warm outside and we go make the most of a nice day (we don’t get many at the moment! – having just had the wettest April for many years!!! could even be on record!!!!!!) playing on the trampoline in the garden. I would like to get on top of it, I dont have the luxury of a utility room to sort and put away so until then I have to work out a way to overcome my last major problem! Plus to get a timetimer clock like Alejandras! beats using the boring old oven timer!!!
