One of the things that is super annoying when doing laundry is spilling the laundry detergent and making everything around you sticky. Here’s my solution to this annoying problem!!

Hi everyone, it’s Alejandra. And it is Saturday morning around 9AM and I am about to do a load of laundry. I usually do my laundry like once a week which is more than enough because it’s only my fiancé, Ed and I that live inside the condo. We don’t have kids. We don’t have family.

But I wanted to just share with you one of my tips on doing laundry and how to make it a little bit easier. So since we live in a condo, space is very limited and we don’t have the luxury of having a full laundry room with a full-size washer and dryer. Instead, we have a stackable washer and dryer inside of a reach-in closet.

So one of the problems that I used to have when I was doing laundry is getting the sticky soap everywhere like on top of the washer, spilling it on the floor, getting it on the container then the container is sticky like I don’t know if it’s just me or if you have the same problem. But I mean I was being really careful when I would dispense the soap like not to spill anywhere and it was just like impossible not to get everything sticky.

How to Avoid Spilling Laundry Detergent and Making Everything Sticky

So in the past two months, I’ve been trying something new and it has been working out perfectly. So I want to share my little tip. So instead of just using the cap that comes with the detergents and filling the cap and then pouring it in the washer not to mention how heavy this thing is, and since I have a small closet, there is like nowhere good to put this because as you can see the top of the dryer is like right by the ceiling so there’s just no space to put it up there. I don’t want to put it on the floor. I don’t want to put it on top of the washer because there’s no space. So I’ve been transferring the soap from the heavy detergent bottle to a very small more manageable size bottle.

This happens to be a Williams-Sonoma Soap Dispenser. I think it was dishwashing soap. But I just transferred the soap from the laundry detergent bottle to the smaller bottle and then I mark some lines for how much detergent I need to pour out. I use painter’s tape to mark the lines. But basically, you get six loads in this bottle. And now, all I do is instead of using this, I just take this and I go around the washer until it reaches the line and I know that’s how much soap I need for that load of laundry.

The great thing about pouring laundry detergent in a smaller bottle is it’s not as heavy like you don’t have to pick up this really heavy thing or fill a cap and then transfer and then clean the cap and then put this back and clean up the spills. You just put it in here and go around and around and around until you reach the line that you marked.

And then, I’m not done yet, there is one more trick, and then I take a drink koozie, this is just like a normal drink koozie that I think we got at like Wal-Mart or Target or something. And I put this bottle inside this drink koozie. In case the soap does drip down the bottle, it’s going to go inside the koozie and not on the bottom here leaving this sticky or the bottle sticky. And then the koozie will never have soap on it like the bottom won’t be sticky, the sides won’t be sticky, nothing will be sticky.

So I have been doing this for like two months now and it’s working out perfectly like there’s no spill, there’s nothing. So if you do this trick at home of transferring the laundry detergent into a smaller, clear bottle, doing laundry is going to be so much easier.
